Painter Le Van De profile
During her time at the National School of the French College of Fine Arts, Le Van De has composed many interesting works. In 1933, Le Van De’s three works, The Fortune Teller, On the Platform of Montparnasse, The Girl with Makeup, won the second prize of the National Association of French Artists. After that, his paintings were selected to participate in the exhibition in room 1, the gallery displaying the works of 5,000 leading artists of the country. At the 1934 French National Artists Exhibition, Le Van De’s painting “In the family” was selected by the French Ministry of Culture to be displayed at the Luxembourg Museum of Fine Arts.
After When achieving many high achievements in Paris, Le Van De received a scholarship to study painting in Rome – Italy and Athena – Greece. At the 1936 World Catholic Press Exhibition held in Rome, Le Van De surpassed nearly 30 famous painters of many countries and won the first prize. Two frescoes “Saint Mother of Mercy” and “Saint Madeleine at the foot of the Cross” by Le Van De are kept at the Vatican Museums. The Holy Roman See has appointed Le Van De as a painter for the Holy See. He was also tasked with being in charge of a team of 11 engineers and 20 painters who worked on drawings and carvings to decorate the Vatican palace. With this work, Le Van De was highly appreciated by the Italian press and experts for his talent and creativity.
Since 1938, Le Van De returned to Vietnam. Besides composing, he also participates in the study of ethnic paintings and oriental paintings. During this time, he was famous for his painting “The Girl Who Sleeps During the Day”. In 1942, painter Le Van De gathered famous painters of that time to form the Annam Art group. The group has organized many successful exhibitions, converging many works of high artistic value such as: silk paintings “Spare curtains”, “Mother Mother”…
Painter Le Van De passed away March 16, 1966 in Saigon.
